Cool

An efficient cylinder has to do more than merely produce - and contain - the power your engine delivers. It must also dissipate the heat it generates quickly, evenly, and efficiently.

A slick surface may look pretty, but it simply doesn't transfer heat as efficiently as a rough one. Disturbing the cooling air greatly assists in the heat transfer process. Air turbulates over the rough surface of a Lycoming cylinder to dissipate heat quickly and evenly.

Hard

Nitriding produces a harder cylinder than through-hardening. During manufacture, the nitriding process creates a .025" thick armor of protection that outlives through-hardening by a wide margin.

Tough

Only Lycoming designs and delivers certified cylinders for the entire line of Lycoming engines ... including high compression cylinders.

Lycoming cylinder barrels and heads have extra strength engineered and built into our alloys at the very start.

Complete

Lycoming cylinder kits come with a nitrided steel barrel*, new aluminum alloy cylinder head, piston pins and plugs, intake and exhaust valves, chrome oil and compression rings, valve springs and seats, retaining keys, and all gaskets and seals.
