DATE: October 30, 2006

This Service Bulletin applies to new, rebuilt, overhauled or repaired Lycoming O-235 engines and accessory housing kit P/N 05K21678 shipped from Lycoming between September 1, 2003 and June 1, 2006.

The engines and spare kits listed above may contain accessory housing P/N 21A23000, S/N 7212-0001 through 7212-0060.

Within the next 50 hours, but not to exceed one year from the date of this Service Bulletin.

Certain accessory housings, P/N 21A23000, either installed on Lycoming O-235 engines or received in an accessory housing kit, P/N 05K21678 between September 1, 2003 and June 1, 2006 may not have an oil passage hole to the idler gear shaft. If the idler gear shaft is not lubricated, wear damage to the idler gear shaft and subsequent damage to the engine by metal contamination may occur. While there have been no failures of the idler gear shaft on the engines or spare kits stated above, Lycoming is initiating this recall as part of our commitment to quality.
