The purpose of this Service Letter is to notify all owners of Lycoming aircraft engines that Special Service Publication No. SSP­567, “Camshaft Regrinding” and all subsequent revisions, all of which were withdrawn from circulation by Lycoming many years ago, are inactive and have been withdrawn by Lycoming engines.

Supersedes Service Instruction No. 1148C

MODELS AFFECTED

All Lycoming engines using float type carburetors.

TIME OF COMPLIANCE

During engine operation.

Under certain moist atmospheric conditions (generally at a relative humidity of 50% or greater) and at temperatures of 20° to 90°F it is possible for ice to form in the induction system.

All Lycoming aircraft engines employing TCM and Bendix S4LN-21, S6LN- 25, S4LN-204, S6LN-204, S4LSC-21T, S6LSC-25T, S4LSC-204T, S6LSC- 204T series magnetos.

Same as that required for Service Bulletin No. 663A.

This reprint is current at the time Service Bulletin No. 576 is issued. However, when complying with this Service Bulletin, insure that this reprint of Teledyne Continental Ignition Systems Service Bulletin No. SB663A is still current at time of compliance.

All Lycoming engines installed with cylinder assemblies that were received in the cylinder kits listed in Table 1 shipped between June 8, 2007 and August 1, 2007.

TIME OF COMPLIANCE

For uninstalled cylinder kits – immediately. For engines with affected cylinder kits – Within next 10 hours of engine operation.

Any Lycoming engine model listed in Table 1 that was manufactured, rebuilt, or overhauled between September 7, 2006 and October 18, 2006.

Any cylinder kit listed in Table 2 that was received between September 7, 2006 and October 18, 2006.

TIME OF COMPLIANCE

At the next maintenance event or within 50 hours of engine operation, whichever occurs first.
