This Service Bulletin applies to new, rebuilt, overhauled or repaired Lycoming O-235 engines and accessory housing kit P/N 05K21678 shipped from Lycoming between September 1, 2003 and June 1, 2006.
The engines and spare kits listed above may contain accessory housing P/N 21A23000, S/N 7212-0001 through 7212-0060.
Within the next 50 hours, but not to exceed one year from the date of this Service Bulletin.

Lycoming model TIO-540-AK1A aircraft engines.
At overhaul or at owner’s discretion.
A slight increase in engine performance has been found by changing the engine timing from 20° BTC to 23° BTC. This modification has been incorporated in the current production of both new and rebuilt engines. This timing change does not affect the normal operating parameters of the engine and no other engine specifications have been modified.

At overhaul or any time main or connecting rod bearings are replaced.
Although various bearings may fit different engines interchangeably, there are differences in material and construction that restrict the use of specific bearings to specific engine models.
