MODELS AFFECTED

Any Lycoming engine model specified below manufactured, rebuilt, overhauled or repaired after March 1, 1999:

Lycoming O-540, IO-540, AEIO-540 and TIO-540 engines rated at 290 horsepower or lower as described in Section 1 and listed in Table 1.

Lycoming IO-540-P, -S, -AA engines rated at 250-290 horsepower by Lycoming as described in Section 2 and listed in Table 2. Lycoming IO-540 and AEIO-540 engines rated at 300 horsepower as described in Section 2 and listed in Table 2.

MODELS AFFECTED

The following Textron Lycoming four cylinder engines which utilize fixed pitch propellers except those installed in rotary wing aircraft. All 320 series engines; and All 180 horsepower, 360 series engines except the O-360-A4A, -A4D, -A4G, -A4J, -A4K, -A4M, -A4N, -A4P, -C4F, -C4P, and AEIO-360-B4A engine models.

MODELS AFFECTED

New, rebuilt and overhauled engines shipped from Lycoming between October 1, 2001 and February 2, 2004 with fuel pump P/N LW-15473. Engine models affected are IO-320, -360, -540; AIO-320, -360; AEIO-320, -360, - 540; HIO-360; TO-360-C1A6D, -F1A6D and O-540-L3C5D. Fuel pumps replaced in the field with a genuine Lycoming fuel pump after October 1, 2001 and up to the date of issuance of this Service Bulletin.

Models Affected

To all Owners and Operators of Lycoming IO-360-L2A, IO-540-AB1A5, IO-540- AC1A5, TIO-540-AJ1A and TIO-540-AK1A Engines Installed in Cessna Aircraft.

As a product improvement an improved lower idle valve has been introduced into the fuel injectors used on IO-360-L2A, IO-540-AB1A5, IO-540-AC1A5, TIO-540-AJ1A and TIO-540-AK1A engines installed in Cessna Aircraft. This new valve is more tolerant of contaminants that may be in the fuel. (See the attached Precision Letter.)

TIME OF COMPLIANCE

Helicopter Engines – 300 hour intervals or earlier if valve sticking suspected. All Other Engines – 400 hour intervals or earlier if valve sticking suspected until exhaust valve guides are replaced with guides made of improved material. (Refer to latest revision of Service Instruction No. 1485.)

All 235 series engines;

All 290 series engines;

All 320 series engines;

and All 180 horsepower, 360 series engines except O-360-A4A, -A4AD, -A4D, -A4G, -A4J, -A4K, -A4M, -A4N, -A4P, -A5AD, -C4F, -C4P, IO-360-L2A and AEIO-360-B4A engine models.

At overhaul or earlier at owner’s discretion.

This reprint is current at the time Lycoming Service Instruction No. 1513 is issued. However, when complying with this Service Instruction, insure that the reprint of Lamar Service Information Letter No. LWI-009 is still current at the time of compliance.

TIME OF COMPLIANCE

Whenever new bearings are installed.

Lycoming has recently upgraded the main and connecting rod bearings. The superseded bearing part numbers and the upgraded bearing part numbers are shown in the table below. Lycoming requires the use of the upgraded bearing whenever new bearings are installed.
